FAQ

Can I use an extension cable on my monitor's video cable?
Maybe. Low-quality extension cables may cause an echo effect resulting in an outline of images on your screen (called a ghosting effect). The reason being, the connector and added cable length increase the impedance seen by the video signal. This increase in impedance creates a mismatch between the signal that the video card sends and what the monitor receives causing a portion of the signal to "bounce" back and forth in the video cable. We do carry a high-quality, shielded, low-impedance extension cable. However, a single-piece cord is a better solution. Image degradation should be expected with cable lengths of twelve feet or more.

Can I use AWE64 and Creative wavesynth/Waveguide ,if I am using other manufacturer of CPU (such as Cyrix 6x86)which claims to perform similarly to Intel's Pentium.
the answer is yes and no.YES,you still can use AWE64 as a normal hardware wavetable card(32 voices) on a system with a Cyrix CPU.However, you cannot have a 64 voices playback as the Creative Wavesynth/Waveguide is ONLY written based on the Intel Pentium chips code.As such, the bundled installation software will not install the Creative Wavesynth/waveguide software and its drivers if you are using other brand of CPU and not Intel Pentium based systems.

Can I view primary links only in the topology?
There is a "Secondary LANs" toggle switch under the Show menu in the topology window. Use this feature to omit/include secondary links.

Can Integrity Check reports be run against scenarios?
No, the Integrity Check reports can be run against baselines only. However, it is possible to make changes to a baseline network and then either re-open the baseline or create a new baseline. Then you can run the report for the new baseline containing the changes.

Can Multiple users schedule a backup at one time, i.e at 11:00p?
Yes, multiple users can send or schedule backup at the same time. Priority goes to the tape drives at the local machines then its first come first served.

Can NovaNET 8 read my NovaNet 6/7 or NovaBack SCSI tapes?
Due to the extended attributes supported in the new NovaNET 8 tape format, old NovaBack and NovaNet 6/7 tapes can not be read by NovaNET 8 at this time.

Can someone explain to me the difference between 'normal' SCSI and differential SCSI?
"Normal" SCSI is also called "Single-ended" SCSI. For each signal that needs to be sent across the bus, there exists a wire to carry it. With differential SCSI, for each signal that needs to be sent across the bus, there exists a pair of wires to carry it. The first in this pair carries the same type of signal the single-ended SCSI carries. The second in this pair, however, carries its logical inversion. The receiver takes the difference of the pair (thus the name differential), which makes it less susceptible to noise and allows for greater cable length.

Can SQL Server backup to a tape unit on another server?
No - SQL doesn't support remote tapes. It can only enumerate and use devices that are local as far as NT is concerned (if an NT level driver was able to make a remote tape look locally attached then SQL Server would be able to use it). You can always dump the SQL database to disk locally (or to a network share - see networkdrivebackup.txt for details) and then back that up to tape. Some 3rd party backup tools that work with SQL Server agents offer this sort of functionality because they get the data from SQL Server via a standard named-pipe or VDI interface and then use their own drivers to write the backup.

Can the CIP card autonomously switch IP packets to all other media types?
Yes, CIP can autonomously switch to any other media type.
